NASCAR Drivers and Fans Take First Lap of Daytona 500 Race Day on Foot
Coca-Cola Family Track Walks Combine Fun, Family-friendly Activities with Access to Top Drivers and Tracks
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Before taking the green flag in the upcoming DAYTONA 500, several NASCAR(R) stars will get their engines started in a completely different way. They'll take to one of the world's most famous racetracks on foot, joined by thousands of fans, to kick off Coca-Cola Family Track Walks - a season-long program designed to encourage active family fun.
Fans can get moving by taking the first lap of the day alongside some of their favorite NASCAR(R) drivers on the legendary racing surface at Daytona International Speedway. Coca-Cola Racing Family drivers Jeff Burton, Clint Bowyer, Elliott Sadler and three-time DAYTONA 500 champion Dale Jarrett will be on hand to lead the inaugural event, which takes place prior to "The Great American Race" at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 14 (registration begins at 8 a.m. at Gate 7). Following the walk, fans can enjoy activities for the whole family, such as games, music, racing simulators, motivating lifestyle tips and Q&A sessions with drivers. The free event is open to all ticket and credential holders for the 2010 DAYTONA 500.
Coca-Cola Family Track Walks will be held at several other venues this season, including Atlanta Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Richmond International Raceway and Chicagoland Speedway. All of the events will provide fun opportunities for fans to get active by offering access to some of the most popular tracks on the circuit, top NASCAR drivers and entertainment for the whole family.
"Coca-Cola Family Track Walks will tap into the passion of NASCAR fans, the energy of the sport, and the uplifting refreshment of Coca Cola to bring families together for some active fun," said Caren Pasquale Seckler, Assistant Vice President, Coca-Cola Brand and Trademark Strategy, Coca-Cola North America. "By giving fans and their families exclusive access to walk on a real racetrack where NASCAR drivers will compete later that day, we're offering them a simple and fun way to celebrate their favorite sport."
Away from the track, fans can visit www.MyCokeRewards.com throughout the year for more information on upcoming events and tips, sweepstakes and exclusive content featuring their favorite Coca-Cola Racing Family drivers.
"I love how Coca-Cola Family Track Walks makes getting active exciting and easy for NASCAR fans. To me, striking a healthy balance is all about the little things in life - staying motivated, making smart choices and spending time with family and friends," said Jeff Burton, driver of the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet. "It will be great to be out on the track with fans to get a jumpstart on race day."
